Philadelphia born and raised, Kate graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a BA in sociology and minors in music and cognitive science. A life-long learner and teacher, she got her first paid tutoring job in middle school. She really began honing her teaching skills in high school, when she passed chemistry mainly because she had to learn the material well enough to teach it to her friends at lunch the next day. Since then, she has worked in pre-kindergarten, elementary, middle, and high school classrooms, teaching lessons on many subjects including reading, math, history, and nutrition. Kate has also written and edited hundreds of DSAT questions for use in the Testive application and other teaching materials.
Kate has spent a lot of time on college campuses—she traveled annually to all seven northern Ivies as a member of the Penn Band (Go Quakers!), spent hours in Rice’s library during her years living in Houston, and taught her first SAT classes to Philadelphia high school students on the campuses of Drexel and Temple Universities—and knows that there are many different factors that go into making a specific school a great fit for a particular student. Test preparation and college applications can feel overwhelming, but Kate believes that a small amount of focused attention and effort can go a long way. Working on a few math problems daily or spending five minutes with a thesaurus to refine an essay’s hook could be the difference between falling short of a goal and surpassing it.
Growing up as both an athlete and a musician, Kate is constantly making connections between preparing for a test or applying to college and training for an event or performance: predicting the precise challenges on a given day is impossible, but learning to recognize the patterns and traps is crucial to success.
Her goal is to connect with every student—whether in a classroom, small group, or one-on-one setting—to identify methods and strategies that will lead to measurable progress without unnecessary stress.

I had a really great experience with my tutor Kaitlyn, she helped me up my score by a lot and also made me more confident with test taking. I really like the daily assignments that I could complete on my own time, and if I got a question wrong there was a video response telling you how to do it right. I thought it was also very helpful that during my tutoring sessions once a week we would go over the some of the difficult questions that I got wrong during the week or on a practice test. I also like how the tutoring was catered toward me and I could keep practicing the problems that I had a hard time with. I learned a lot of new strategies and techniques that I used on the SAT. Overall, I am very happy with my tutoring experience.

Kate is always looking for recommendations for new or underrated books, music, and games. Fun facts and bad puns are also welcome at all times. She does not use social media in part because she only ever takes variations on the same photo (a selfie with her kids) and, therefore, would have nothing to post.
