Frequently Asked Questions

What happens if I miss the exam start time?

No problem! Click the link in your email to start the test whenever you’re ready.

How do I change tests? (also: switch test type day-of)

In order to change tests before or during the exam, you can use the “Change Test” button in the bottom of the screen. If you have already started an exam, changing tests will erase all progress on the currently started exam.

What if I need to take a break?

The exams include timed breaks identical to those on the real tests. It’s recommended that you try to only take a break during the allotted time. If you have an emergency there is a “Pause” button in the top right corner of the screen that will pause the test and allow you to take a break should you need to.

Should I bring my own calculator?

You should use your own SAT/ACT approved calculator.

Will somebody be watching me take the test?

We will not have somebody watching you take the test. We will have proctors available for support during the test. You can speak to someone either via email or the chat box on the right side of this page.

How do I use the testing software?

The test is laid out similar to how a paper test would be taken. There is a PDF version of the test on the left side, and a bubble sheet on the right. On the PDF side there will be scroll bars allowing you to move horizontally and vertically on the test page, in addition to zoom buttons and page buttons that allow you to change zoom levels and pages respectively. On the bubble sheet side you may click an answer to select it, clicking an already selected answer will remove your selection, clicking a different bubble will change your selection. If you complete a section early there is an end test button at the top that will allow you to give up your extra time in order to complete the test quicker, be aware that this option is not allowed on an official exam.

Where do my answers get saved to?

Your test answers will be saved on both your computer and the Testive servers.

What device should I use to take the exam?

We recommend using a device with a screen size of at least 11 inches, laptops, desktops, or tablets of this size will work well. The test will work on smaller screens such as phones, but will not provide an entirely accurate testing experience.

It is recommended to use the latest version of Google Chrome to complete the exam, but it should work on Safari, Firefox, or Opera as well.

What happens if I close my browser?

If you close your browser simply navigate to the link in your email and reopen it. The test will attempt to restore your answers as best as it can but some data may be lost. If you lose a significant amount of data please reach out to the test proctors for help recovering it.
